Fort Moore is proud to introduce its 2024 Youth Ambassadors. These three young leaders attended the Youth Leadership Forum in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they assisted in facilitating workshops and activities focused on relationships, mentoring, and other critical issues. They challenged themselves to identify the top three concerns faced by military children across all Garrisons and won. Recognition for their efforts, specifically being awarded for addressing the second most critical issues.
As Youth Ambassadors, their roles are to develop, empower, and advocate for the following key issues:
- Life Skills
- College Preparation
- Healthy Intimate Boundaries
Meet the Youth Ambassadors of Fort Moore!
Olivia
Lee – 16-year-old, born in Colorado Springs. She has three sisters and a brother. Currently, she is a student at Chattahoochee County High School and has been involved in JROTC for two years. She is determined to excel in her studies and has her sights set on college after high school.
Alanys Hernandez - 15-year-old, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is homeschooled and about to start her sophomore year of high school. She comes from a large family with four younger siblings, making her the eldest. She enjoys various activities, including crochet, swimming, baking, and reading. She also loves volunteering at community events. In the future, she aims to earn an associate’s degree in dental hygiene. In the near term, she looks forward to getting her driver's license and first job. Alanys’s values characteristics such as kindness, patience, and honesty.
Kelvin Carpenter – 17-year-old who is currently in the 12th grade and will graduate from Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama, in May 2025. He has two older sisters whom he loves dearly. His immediate goal is to complete an internship at a local hospital as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). After graduating high school, he plans to continue his education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to become a Registered Nurse (RN). Since his freshman year, he has achieved many things, but one of his proudest accomplishments is being elected Vice President of Keystone, a program that supports military children worldwide! - Ready and Resilient (R2) Program

Middle School and Teen presents Ready and Resilient Program for Teens (R2 Teens). The program focuses on Army teens facing significant challenges growing up in the Army family lifestyle, facing permanent change of station moves, multiple parental deployments, and potential mental and physical to their parents. The R2 Teens Program will enable teens to learn through modeling, experimental learning opportunities and the ability to learn from peers.
This program is for ages 13-18 or grades 8th - 12th at no charge. You can register with the Middle School & Teen Program at Building 1055, 7110 McIver Street (High School students can register themselves).

- PASSPORT TO MANHOOD: Represents a targeted effort to engage young boys in discussions and activities that reinforce character, leadership and positive behavior.
- SMART GIRLS: Helps girls develop toward healthy attitudes. SMART Girls is a small-group health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of girls.

TORCH: Torch Clubs are chartered, small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. A Torch Club is a powerful vehicle that helps Club staff meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life.

KEYSTONE CLUB: Provides leadership development opportunities for young people ages 14 to 18. Youth participate in activities in three focus areas: academic success, career preparation and community service.

STEP TEAM: Performs a unique dance art form that originated in Africa. It's a form of percussive dance in which the participants' entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken works and hand claps.

ANIME: An organization that meets to discuss, show, and promote anime in a local community setting and can also focus on broadening Japanese cultural understanding.

COOKING: Youth will gather to take on cooking projects and explore an unfamiliar cuisine. Become familiar with and comfortable with cooking in the kitchen with little to no experience.

SEWING: An ongoing class designed to allow youth to learn and share their sewing projects with one another while socializing.

FUTURE MILLIONAIRE CLUB: Aims to teach youth on how become financially stable at a young age. Learn about investing, entrepreneurship, budgeting.

FITNESS CLUB: Engage in physically fit activities, learn how to make consciously health decisions to improve your mental and physical wellbeing with the fitness club.

STEM CLUB: STEM club provides students the opportunity to engage in stimulating hands-on-activities that explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

COSMETOLOGY CLUB: Explore the beauty within yourself; cosmetology club focuses on different topics in the beauty industry like nails, facials cleansers, make up applications and hairstyles. Look at the change in fashions and explore how one can be an agent for change in the world of fashion.
- Youth Sponsorship

The Youth Sponsorship Program is available to youth family members of active-duty, retired, and reserve military, as well as youth dependents of DoD civilians. The Youth Sponsorship Program has active students, ranging from Middle School to High School to welcome incoming youth and assist with their transition here.
The Youth Sponsorship program can help your teen learn about their new community and make new friends. Getting involved quickly helps children and teens fit in and feel less stress associated with their PCS move. All it takes to join the club and visit the Middle School and Teen Center or contact your School Liaison Officer.
Participation in the Youth Sponsorship program will:
- Promote youth awareness and involvement in the community
- Get to know the post, Columbus and surrounding area
- Gain information about area schools
- Get to know CYS Middle School and Teen Center
- Enhance youth responsibility and independence
- Encourage new friendship

- Lifeguard Training for Teens

Learn the skills you need to be an emergency responder, a lifeguard or a trustworthy babysitter. We partner with the American Red Cross to offer CPR/First Aid/AED Training to MWR patrons 15 and older for $75. This includes an Adult and Pediatric First Aid/AED/CPR certificate valid for two years. - Babysitting Classes for Teens

CYS hosts babysitting certification classes for ages 11-17. Instruction includes CPR. The cost is $30. To register, call +1(706) 545-0522.
The Middle School and Teen Program is designed to develop young minds and bodies for a healthy transition to adulthood. This program includes classes, field trips, after school homework help, open recreation and more. The office opens at 9:30am. Register at Parent Central.
This program is for ages 11-18, Grades 6th to 12th. This program is at no charge.
